Position: Ocean Import Operator
Location: Manchester Air Freight Terminal

GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
- Responsible for end to end ocean imports procedures for key clients and accounts
- To be responsible for producing high quality customs entries and delivering outstanding customer service to all customers, overseas partners and suppliers.
- Ensure accuracy of information from importers on the requirements for correct Customs Entry from client's instructions.
- Manage your time to ensure that priorities and targets set are achieved.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan and control your activities on a day to day basis to ensure all entries are completed in a timely manner.
- Compare data with source documents, check for accuracy and re-enter data in verification format to detect errors.
- Sort and verify the accuracy of data before it is entered as well as locate and correct data entry errors.
- Obtain relevant information from the customer in order to complete customs clearance, deliver or release of cargo.
- Maintain all files ensuring that any Duty & Vat entered through our Deferment are invoiced and funds collected prior to delivery or release.
- Keep operational Staff & Customers fully informed of any holds, exams or other areas which may cause delay to a shipment.
- Develop constructive relationships with key customers and key suppliers, resolving any concerns and ensuring corrective action is taken.
- Maintain effective communication and relationships with customers, overseas offices and partners.
- Identify and provide early warning to the manager of the relevant department, on any issues and problems that could have an adverse effect on deadlines.
- Liaise where appropriate with other departments to resolve any conflicting issues raised by customers
- Ensure all Consignments are loaded onto computer system prior to arrival / departure either by EDI or manually, checking paperwork for accuracy.
- Maintain all files ensuring they are costed and invoiced prior to Import, Export, Delivery or release
- Provide transport companies with the relevant information to ensure customer delivery requirements are met.
- Take ownership of all accounting issues and queries as and when directed by management
- Assist with insurance claims in line with company procedures as and when requested by management.
- Complete any month end routines as directed by manager.
- Action other ad hoc duties as requested by manager.
- Promote and maintain image, procedures and standards as set and with management
- Any other duties as requested by management
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Working knowledge of CHIEF, CNS, Destin 8
- Working knowledge of T 1 Movements
- Conversant with Port Health Requirements, CED, CVEDS etc
- Ocean Imports Experience
- European Road Freight experience desirable
- Export Experience also an advantage
